Not a fair comment IMO. For instance I've been a practicing RE attorney for over 16 years. I still regularly consult with collegues in my daily activities to see how others view similar issues, compare notes on how things are done, etc. I think Cheney is wise to seek other views.

I am not quite sure where the law comes down on this. Obviously, if it were cut and dried, the Administration and its fancy lawyers would not be holding out. As for the lameness of the excuse, well, I am talking about a future chilling effect. If people spoke freely because there was nobody here "but us chickens", and could be made to look bad in the aftermath, it will be harder to get those in areas one is unfamiliar with to open up.......
