Well if the Transputer had run a more conventional (i.e. understandable by average programmers) language, and had 1024 processors per CPU, with each CPU being the power of an USIII, it would have been successful.

Occam was just a little too pedantic, with its ? and ! operations. Plus it was (like me) British. Which is a major problem if you are computer hardware, but not if you write sofware.
