Imagination that energy priced spiked 50-500% in California once Bush took office? Gas, natgas and electricity all at the same time? All flowing in from Texas from B-C crony companies. Bush-Cheney chuckling about it instead of helping. Trying to push 1900 new power plants on us. Telling us shortages will only get worse unless we completely deregulate protection, plunder environment and give huge contracts and tax breaks to their cronies now. Enormous soft money from these companies to B-C going back years. Attacking Grey Davis potential 2004 rival as if he were to blame somehow. Duke power workers told to shut off juice during height of crisis. Supply cut from Texas pipelines blamed on "bottleneck" no one can explain. Williams, Duke and Enron refusing to hand over records from that period. All those companies profits doubling that quarter (more or less) so no cost factor there just gouging. My parents in Houston hearing an energy bigwig wife saying "we're sure sticking it to California". No supply shortage now despite all their reasons why shortages should continue for years. 60% of Californians (including Republicans) now believing/realizing energy crisis was a big hoax and ripoff. Gouging stopping immediately once Jeffords switched parties? A hundred billion gouged nationally inside 6 months. As much as the tax breaks plus they get 33 billion more in tax breaks for production they can afford to pay for themselves. Bush-Cheney trying to ram a very unpopular polluting energy policy on the country despite majority opposition to it. They gain big-time, we lose. MY imagination? Or yours that it didn't happen? And isn't continuing? When they can get away with it again they'll gouge us again. Bush-cheney have already anounced their plans to have OPEC cut production and raise prices again. Proff they can and will manipulate world energy prices (or target market prices like California for political revenge) at will using it was a big ugly weapon which brings them record windfall profits. My imagination? Come on, grab neck and pull head out of sand. You pay too. We all do.
