I don't think it was misrepresented by those who were in favor of it, I think that the public misunderstood it based on how the press presented it. The mainstream press misrepresents almost everything along those lines just as they are now misrepresenting what it is in the opposite direction. Now they are talking about it as if it is coming from next years money. Equally stupid to speak of it in terms of last years money or next years money. The real problem is that the public isn't smart enough to discount what they read in the papers, they depend on a bunch of journalists and lobbyists to tell them how they should think about something. Individuals have to make some effort to understand these things on their own, or at least read between the lines. They should make some effort to learn how to read a GD tax return. Over and over again I see people making someone else accountable for their own ignorance. We're not talking about fraud here, we're talking about people letting someone else put things in a language that they can understand because they haven't made the effort to understand the most basic calculations on their returns.
