Because as bad as it appears, it's still the best system. At least for now.
However, I fear that we may continue to get sub par candidates as long as their private life is as public as it has been lately. What great man wants a life totally devoid of any privacy? We are left with shells of men who have no life and no past.

Ben Wa, I would agree with you. However, I would like to see more honest dialogue with regards to actual policy. Personnaly, I tend to fear government in general and in any debate, will take the side that seems least likely to exercise control over my personal freedoms.
