Peter, All the old Euro governments have relics of the way the Kings did it in the old days.
In those countries you can do nothing, unless the king permitted it...now they are all democracies, but the beurocracy acts like they are still monarchies and will not obey the desires of the people.

In the USA since they came from a revolution, a person could more or less do whatever he wanted as long as it did not go against the law.

Big difference. In Dallas, Texas if you buy land in the suburbs you can probably start to build within a month.
In Toronto it will take 3 years of beurocratic crap and hearings etc to get permits. That is our relic of the imperial past.
How is it in germany if you buy 100 acres of land and want to build 600 houses?

The old craft guilds are the ancestors of the modern unions and their wage demands actually hurt the average german by reduction of his countries efficienecy.

What would happen if I opened a convenience store and wanted to stay open 24/7, or even until 11 PM?
