Mark,

To be honest, I'm still not entirely clear on which expiration month contracts are available when.

Do you mean this in general, or for DNA specifically?

Neglecting LEAPS, there are always 4 option series available. All options have a basic 3-month cycle, with "next month" (after front month) added whenever it does not already exist. When the next month is part of the cycle, the cycle month 6 months after the next month gets added. Somebody decides which of the 3 possible 3-month cycles each stock will run on when the options are first created. I assume they try to keep an even distribution of cycles.

DNA now has AUG, SEP, DEC, MAR. It's on a MAR JUN SEP DEC cycle. When AUG is gone, it will be replaced by OCT. When SEP is gone, it will be replaced by NOV. When OCT is gone there will already be a NOV and DEC, so the next one in the 3-month series will be added. That is JUN.
