Samsung Adopts CymerOnline(TM) for Cymer Excimer Light Sources
Software to Augment Overall Effectiveness of Company's Excimer Light Sources Through Near Real-Time, Remote e-Diagnostics
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Cymer, Inc. (Nasdaq: CYMI - news), the world's leading supplier of excimer light sources used in semiconductor manufacturing, today announced the initial installation of CymerOnLine(TM) and that the customer was Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (Seoul, Korea). Launched just last quarter, CymerOnLine is the industry's first lithography light-source-specific e-diagnostics and performance monitoring software for remote analysis and support of the company's global installed base of excimer light sources. The software package was installed in late July and is being used to monitor Cymer's light sources installed within Samsung's facilities. In addition, CymerOnLine is currently installed at several beta test sites located in fabs of other leading global chipmakers.

``Cymer has built upon its advanced light sources and taken its product offerings one step further with CymerOnLine. We have found CymerOnLine to be a very valuable tool in our facilities. By enabling us to anticipate and schedule maintenance downtime and monitor the laser's performance in near real time, this monitoring tool has made our manufacturing line more efficient and cost effective -- something we feel is crucial, especially during the industry downturn we are experiencing,'' noted Seog Jong Hong, Samsung's M2 Project Photo Manager.

According to Brian Klene, Cymer's senior vice president of marketing and business development, CymerOnLine was designed to respond to chipmakers' need to reduce capital expenditures in light of rising chip manufacturing costs. ``With the cost of constructing new fabs approaching $2 billion, chipmakers are looking for more innovative ways to maximize fab efficiency and thereby achieve a higher return on their investment,'' said Klene. ``The benefits afforded by CymerOnLine result in an increased productivity and efficiency of our already high-performing light sources, as well as a significant reduction in fab costs. Its rapid adoption by Samsung is a testament to its capabilities.''

CymerOnLine is an extremely convenient, efficient and highly effective solution for Cymer's customers wishing to utilize e-diagnostics to monitor the health and performance of the light sources within their lithography tools on-line. Designed to support Cymer's 5000, 6000 and 7000 Series excimer light source models, CymerOnLine can be easily accessed from any location, at any time. As a result, this unique software package can enhance the return on chipmakers' investments in Cymer's light sources by providing critical information about light source diagnostics and performance on a near real-time basis, enabling high system uptime rates and improving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

CymerOnLine minimizes scheduled and unscheduled equipment downtime, supports proactive maintenance scheduling and increases customer support efficiencies. Through CymerOnLine, customers can access and track the performance parameters of Cymer's light sources on a near real-time basis via statistical process control. In addition, there is no need for customers to make hardware or software modifications to Cymer's 5000 Series and higher series light sources to utilize CymerOnLine.
