Re: there ARE no 1.5 GHz AthWipers. Even if Sanders promised them for Q1 of this year.

Sanders said there would be 1.5GHZ Athlons when there were 2GHZ P4s (which was supposed to happen just after the holiday, Dec of 2000 or Jan of 2001).

When Intel didn't release 2GHZ P4, AMD didn't release the similar performing 1.5GHZ Athlon.

There were indications that both companies could have shipped at least small quantities of such chips in that time frame. When one didn't, neither did the other.

A web site recently tested 75 1GHZ (rated) Athlons with a good heatsink/fan combo. All were stable at least to 1.6GHZ, the average was good for 1.67GHZ. These were labeled as 1.0GHZ chips.

I would imagine the latest stepping of P4 1.6GHZ chips are generally good for 2.0 - 2.2GHZ, perhaps higher.

Something - perhaps technical, perhaps marketing, delayed both companies for 8 months this year.
