last thing i heard on the subject was that it wasn't worth it...while there's a lot of gold suspended in the ocean, the concentration is so minimal that recovery can't be done economically until we've found a source of energy that costs next to nothing. so if it ever happens, it will be in the far future...too far to concern us.

imo the gold mines have done what can be done with current technology to improve recoveries and slash costs...from now on, it's either a rise in price, or a precipitous fall in production. lots of old mines are getting mined out, with no new projects to replace them, since everybody has slashed exploration budgets to the bone.
