"What's so different about the thunderbirds AMD FABs now compared to the ones they were FABing then [in January]?" Nothing I guess - they didn't release a 1.5GHz Athlon THEN and still haven't NOW! "I think yields at those speeds would have been terrible if they'd had to tune their process for such speeds last winter (they've doubtless had time to perfect their process controls in the meanwhile). And there were a couple of "active cooled" P4 overclocks very early this year that hinted at the speeds we should soon be seeing from Intel." Jerry claimed 1.5GHz in January. The Register claimed 2GHz from Intel in January/February. And you're comparing the two? You're comparing a statement from a CEO to one from the The Register. Again, do you believe what you write, because if you do it's scary. The Register also said Compaq I believe may have Hammer systems for sale at the end of last year. Let me guess, with your distorted logic, you think AMD would have released Hammer if Itanium were released at the same time? "I keep thinking back to those incredibly credible sounding posts on Yahoo from 1.5 years ago where someone who claimed to work at Dresden said he'd seen Athlons running at 1.5GHZ - then he got very apologetic and disappeared when it was pointed out to him that revealing such data could mess up AMD's marketing plans." 1.5 years ago and they STILL haven't realesed it yet! Actually, it wasn't 1.5 years ago. More distortion on your part. The really sad thing about that rumor is some people, including some on this thread, believed a surprise 1.5GHz was going to be released soon. "But that's almost exactly what we're seeing now for copper thunderbirds, and it seems to be pretty close to the max for thunderbirds on the current process (certainly within 20%)." Doesn't it concern you that there was a report the 1.5GHz Athlon may be a Thunderbird instead of a Palomino? Could AMD be having binsplit problems with Palomino? Here's something to think about - If much more than 50% of AMD's Q2 processor shipments were in June, the final month of the quarter, and Intel is dropping prices significantly on August 26, leaving the final month of this quarter with lower prices at the same GHz, what will happen to AMD's ASPs for Q3? Just something to think about...
