Sounds like AMD has already predicted a return to the "red"
for Q3 before these "price war" announcements.

The anticipation of such price drops is what led to the the prediction that there would be a good chance of a loss in Q3. If there was no price war AMD would have not problem with profitability. Actually the price war is worse in flash. AMD will probably have a profitable CPU business in Q3 but lose money selling flash.
