Well, I was not talking about any "superiorities" I just wanted to show that the "machine model" may not be the best one to analyze a country. The machine model would suggest that a countrys "performance" is determined by some technical inputs like a functional government, the right laws etc. and if this input is ok, everything is fine. The system model on the other hand assumes that most basic elements are pieces of communication that in an endless process relate to prior communication and so on. Thus, systems (re-)produce themselves. According to Luhmann this is called "autopoeisis". This has some implications: - e.g. problems persist, because they are constantly reproduced by communicative interactions which in turn were grounded by prior communication. - changes in the surrounding only have indirect influence to the system. The environment is not directly coupled to the system. Environment is first noise, only when an impulse it is "understood" by the system so that it changes communication options the system has in its "reactional repository" change can happens. E.g. changes in macroeconomic parameters are simply ignored by the system if they are not understood. To come back to the original question if "China is just another developing country", the answer would be "no", because the Chinese have got a very complex common culture that determines their interpretation of environmental events and provokes certain reactional communication to whatever may happen. The Chinese "reactional repository" is probable very different from that of other developing countries so there must be a difference. No valuation of anything was intended...<g> PMG
