You are talking to a risk averse mother.
I got hurt an enormous amount in my childhood. Some of these injuries have left me with lasting pain, that is getting worse as I grow older. I highjumped and took out all the ligaments/muscles/etc in one leg because I had a foot go through the mats. That leg has never been very good since- and I was only 12. The knee cap won't even stay in place. I was thrown from a horse and suffered temporary paralysis from the neck down. I did a header over the handlebars of my bicycle in 6th grade (riding with no hands down a steep hill). I rode centuries on my bike and had so many injuries I can't even remember them all.

I don't want my kids to do that kind of stuff. It's too damaging. Of course if I had a kid that HAD to do a sport I'd let them. I'm not one to stand in the way of any passion. But I can't stand organized sports and my kids seem to have no interest in them anyway. We spend a lot of time at the pool. They like to swim. For fun. But they are supervised. I think good supervision is the key to happiness. I think you need to make the supervision somewhat transparent, but still.....
