I was also thinking about the Spanish conquest of Mexico etc - I'm not sure they were better or worse than the Aztecs they supplanted. Not just the British who were one of the better colonial powers.

Nor Japan [which they got via the USA].

Japan actually set out to deliberately copy Britain from 1868 on so that they could compete with the US.

Slavery

It's only recently (relatively speaking) that the West decided that was a bad idea. That was a key feature in the Western expansion.

But sure there are plenty of good aspects to the current Western culture which are now being copied and exploited almost everywhere except Afghanistan etc.
