Would the oil be worth it if we suddenly lost a major foreign supplier, and crude prices jumped to, say, $48? $68? Would the oil be worth it if we were
engaged in a war and a lack of crude was impeding our ability to maintain our economy? What about if it were impeding our ability to fight and win the

You can conjure any number of crisis scenarios under which I would agree to do things that seem unnecessary now.
