still makes sense if you want to measure relative differences. Say the Bavarians drink 5% of their output so that it never shows up and they also need more time as they show thus a more "relaxed" work style. So they would be less productive than sober brewers...<g>

If you do not only count the numbers but also value you measure something that would be literally translated have the name "marginal factor value productivity of work". It's in my industrial economics book but I do not have time right now to re-read it... with that figure you can decide whether it is more efficient to use machinary, labor, capital etc. if the aim is rentability....
