But I disagree that the content is demand-driven. Kids don't know what they want. They look to TV to tell them what they should want.

In the specifics, but I had in mind the general trend of populist and youth-centered entertainment to coarsen the product. Mass market is inherently lower brow. (Not unlike populist politics, a blend of the House of Representatives and World Wide Wrestling.)

Not true at all. Watch them channel surf. A station that doesn't show them what they want lasts only seconds.
