Productivity & Costs.. higher at 2.5% from last quarter .1%, the magic coming back. Output higher as output per Hour: Nonfarm Business 118.1 and number of hours worked less as hours Worked 120.7 , that means lower wage costs and that is the picture of strong productivity rebound, Productivity growth rebounded in the second quarter, posting a 2.5% gain. This is a strong turnaround from the performance of the first quarter. The improvement was driven by a drop in hours worked while output held nearly constant. While the overall nonfarm business sector posted a gain, manufacturing productivity continues to fall, due to continued drops among nondurable manufacturers. Thus, while the productivity report is a positive sign that the economy may pull out of the downturn and avoid recession, it also indicates that pockets of significant weakness still remain.

United Press reports that U.S. military aircraft bombed Iraqi air defense sites in northern Iraq after U.S. and British planes enforcing the no-fly zone north of Mosul were fired upon. Coalition aircraft responded to the attacks by dropping ordnance on elements of the Iraqi integrated air defense system. U.S. officials said there have been "65 days of incidents" this year of Iraq threatening patrolling planes.
