That is an interesting point, he was no sissy. He was also very insecure however, perhaps that explains it some. I also think that Kennedy would have prosecuted the war much better. I think Kennedy being a vet and having had experience under fire would have done as CK suggested, make it a 3 minute war, or just get the hell out.

And ftr, although Kennedy was the first to send combat troops, it was FDR that sent the first Americans to Vietnam. This was followed by Truman supporting the French and continued support by Eisenhower
