I wonder what Daniel Ortega is doing these days. Haven't seen much of him since his people voted him out. I heard that when he delivered his speech to the UN assembly, (in full camo) he went shopping afterward and bought a pair of $300 sunglasses.

They were not natural allies, but the day Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi flew out of Mehrabad Airport, elements of 5 Soviet divisions (almost all Azeri troops) crossed the Aras river and enterd Iranian Azerbaijan. In 48 hours there were massive fightings in Tabriz, Astara, Urumiay, and Ardabil. These so called "Azeri freedom fighters" were dressed in civilian cloth, and spoke Azeri Turkish, but the officers issued order in Russians. There field wirless and walkie talkie conversation were heard as far away as in Israel!! Iran was about to be curved into three Soviet Republics!

This made up the mind of the National Secuirty people in Washington D.C.; Prime Minster Shahpur Bakhityar and the four battations of Javidan divsion were too weak to keep the country together! Loss of the Western part of Iran, Iranian Azerbaijan and Iranian Kurdistan would have brought the Soviet troops almost a stone through of the Persian Gulf ( A streight lind from Astara Mahabad and then on to Kirmanshah and Khuramabad! Addio Iran! That would have been the end of free flow of Oil.

Khomeini was the only man that could keep the country united and a necessary evil! Ayatolah did no know, but he was surrounded by US allies such as Yazdi, and Bazargan, the first two prime minsters after the revoluions!

Do you understand what I am trying to tell you? Let me go back to the Kebab stand in Urumchi, very late supper! ggg
