This is what QWest told me. From their brochure:

QWest DSL Deluxe service is $29.95/month. Internet Service Provider fees, telephone line and external modem are additional.

an $18/mo. ISP?"


What would one do in a stand alone situation for Email and such? Would they have to register as a WebSite and have a domain name? And how about security, such as firewalls and virus checks and hackers?

xDSL is just a replacement for your phone line. You still need to "call" or connect to an ISP to handle the routing and, if needed, services.
