With Intel cutting off the supply of PIII variants to force the market to P4, there should be a great opening for VIA. Both P4 and Athlon need pretty good sized boxes and have cooling requirements that are hard to satisfy without noisy fans. VIA C3's are .13 chips with very low power and cooling requirements and work on any of the myriad of small form factor socket 370 (PIII) motherboards. So Q1 of next year could see:
X86 market share:

VIA 20%
AMD 30%
Intel 50%

I saw a full moon out there last night. You have hair growing on your forehead to go along with the lunacy?

Re: X86 Via Market Share

Right!! Intel with its ultra low-power Tualatins is going to watch
VIA invade this market!

I wish people would look at their points of view from all angles instead of
being chauvinistic before they posted to this bulletin board.
Even though I am an Intel supporter, AMD has gained a lot of my respect
by introducing competitive products in the marketplace in reasonable volumes.
It really bugs me when seeming intelligent people put one-hit or no-hit
wonders like Transmeta or Via in the same category.

Via is going to go from near 0 to 20% market share in two quarters!!
Didn't someone say the same thing about Transmeta before they imploded?

Blow Boy - Re: "there should be a great opening for VIA. "

I'm rooting for:

Intel - 85%

VIA 12%

AMD - 3%
