theCow, since Norton Unerase Wizard is a program owned by millions, the following may be of interest:

When I retrieved a shift-DEL deleted file using NUW, I didn't know the file name. But a key word I knew to be in the file sufficed for the recovery.

Suppose someone gives away an old computer after erasing his personal files with shift-DEL. The files MAY still be recoverable by the next owner of the PC. Formatting the hard disk would solve that problem, but may not be desirable if software on the HD is to be passed on.

Is there a program that can overwrite a single file with nonsense data?

Gottfried

I sure wish PMS Witch was around to give us a better explanation.

Maybe she's in Iceland.

From her post on Jul 4.
I'm leaving for Iceland in a few days. Their telephone numbers are just as unusual as those in France. HELP!!!

In the same vein, it seems Mr. Mark has been away for much too long. I hope he's not contemplating a permanent vacation from the thread.
