Sudan: Army spokesman denies rebels attacked southern oil field Text of report by Sudanese radio, in Arabic, on 7 August The official spokesman of the armed forces, Staff Lt-Gen Muhammad Bashir Sulayman, has denied reports by foreign media sources that the rebel movement has attacked oil fields and the airport in Hijlij [Unity State, southern Sudan]. In a statement to the radio, he said the oil fields were totally secure and the armed forces were in full control of the situation. He said the statement by the rebel movement regarding this issue was in response to the defeats it was facing.
