Intel will be moving from 0.18-micron aluminum to 0.13-micron copper. AMD will be moving from 0.18-micron copper to 0.13-micron copper.

Tim, Re: wouldn't Thoroughbred have about the same performance as Northwood?

Northwood will have at least one additional performance enhancement over Willamette (a 512kb L2 cache, confirmed by a leaked internal Intel roadmap), but I doubt we'll see any in Thoroughbred compared to Palomino. My guess is that the 0.13 micron transition will be similar to the 0.18 micron transition (no architectural differences, just a new process).
