<<...Acampora sees stealth bull rally

Acampora maintains that a stealth bull market is currently taking place as technical factors have been improving markedly.

"The majority of stocks are going up," the Prudential strategist said. On the other hand, the few big names that made the stock averages fly from 1998 to early 2000 are now acting like an albatross around the market's neck.

The big-cap stocks that investors threw themselves at during the heyday of the Nasdaq will now at best be "good trading opportunities," according to Acampora.

With the Nasdaq no longer on steroids, a shift is taking place among investors, the technical analyst noted. He's focused on more "mundane" companies now, including firms in the paper and forest products segment as well as in the retail sector.

"Investors have to concentrate on stock selection, not market timing," he maintained.

Acampora predicts a major recovery in stocks next year and sees the market as "fairly valued" at current levels.

The analyst closely watches the Philly Semiconductor Index ($SOX: news, chart, profile), which tends to lead the tech sector. While the index as a whole has essentially been oscillating without any clear direction over the past months, Acampora sees plenty of action beneath the surface.

"If you look selectively, many stocks are stabilizing," Acampora said....>>
