jcholewa, RE:

"my website's message forum is an openly moderatable board where the people themselves determine the line between intellectual conversation and intolerable garbage."

While a self-governing board has the positive effect of creating a common standard that is taken for granted by the membership, I don't think it would work well on a board like this.

This is my first post, so you'll have to excuse me for making assumptions, but I've found by reading a lot of the content here, that this board lends itself to free and open opinions and ideas. I'd like to see the members here feel comfortable to put what they think, without fearing retribution because of unpopular opinions. However, this is not to be confused with those who feel like there is some sort of conspiracy at work here. I guess I'm trying to say that I agree with your previous posts, and your rebuking of the idea that there is a mob mentality at work.

I think that the suspensions in question were well justified, and for those uncomfortable with the actual reasons, it may help to think of them as somewhat of a last-straw. In general, I don't think it's that difficult to listen to what people have to say, before disagreeing with them. I think most of the members here just want some respect for that opinions, and I don't think you (not you, jcholewa, but people in general) need to agree with them in order to give them that. Of course there are exceptions, but I think that more people here have a genuine interest and expertise with the industry, and they tend to out-weight those fudsters that mean to cause confusion and contention. In the end, the educated reader should be able to find out the truth for themselves. But that's just my opinion.
