I agree with a lot of that. When I said that the Cultural Revolution was the opposite of civilization exactly what I was thinking is that they sent the intellectuals etc. out of the cities and back to the land etc. When "civilization" is as you say a culture with cities, writing, mathematics, astronomy, etc. I think you could have a single city civilization but at this point it gets a bit semantic.
