[World DRAM Price] Prices of 128Mb Memory Chips Plunge Worldwide August 8, 2001 (TOKYO) -- The 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAM microchips for large-volume users plunged to the US$2 level in the three major global markets. The 30-day rolling average spot prices dropped to the US$1 level in the United States, following Asia. The spot prices are less than one-eighth the level of a year ago. According to the published settlement of accounts of Micron Technology Inc. and Infineon AG, both companies are incurring big losses each month. According to a worldwide DRAM price survey conducted by ICIS-LOR, based in London, Houston, and Singapore, the 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8) up until July 20 (from June 21-July 20) for large-volume users were US$2.82 in North America, US$2.89 in Europe, and US$2.77 in Asia. Compared with the previous week (30-day rolling average prices through July 13), the prices fell 6.32 percent in North America, 5.79 percent in Europe and 7.58 percent in Asia. As for memory-module prices, the spot prices of 128MB DIMMs (PC133) fell 4.69 percent to US$15.91 in North America, compared with the previous week, and they fell 10.97 percent to US$16.05 in Europe and 7.94 percent to US$14.36 in Asia.
