HUD implemented a Teacher Next Door/Policeman Next Door policy that offered half-price homes to these professionals to live in the areas of employment (sometimes blighted) and be "role models".

Recently HUD announced 20% of the program recipients have broken the law, taken the discount but do not live in the homes as promised. The feds are seeking repayments, new rules and even prosecutions. All sorts of new bureaucracy, record-keeping and inspections may be needed.

What an obvious waste of money. The program also raises the obvious question, "What kind of role models are these public servants?" Perhaps HUD should re-name this program, the "Grifter Next Door"
