The structure was built to protect and isolate themselves from outsiders as was routine for all societies a couple of hundred years ago and earlier....., very much like we hear in this nowadays from the conservative Bushies....something like MDS and go it alone diplomacy.... I would guess that far more conservatives in this county own guns to "protect their homes" than liberals. So your characterization is the exact opposite of what you said.
