Yeah. but in the end the policies are going to be remarkably similar, especially considering the chasm that many claim exists. To a large extent this is because government options are limited by resources. What we have is two extremes in each party and a large middle which must be won over to win. Each party has problems with its extreme wing. Extreme dems would shut down economy to save some exotic unknown species, line all white european males up and shoot them, and raise taxes till the economy collapsed. Extreme reps would impose relgious beliefs on us, reduce govt. services to unacceptable levels and give the military anything it wanted.

Then there is the rest of us in the middle. The trick is not to alienate the extremists and at the same time get enough votes from the middle to win.

How can you have policies that are that different???
