DRAM Makers Expect Fall in CPU Prices to Boost Chip Demand
August 9, 2001 (SEOUL) -- With Intel Corp. moving to lower prices of CPUs, local DRAM
manufacturers are hoping that the fall in CPU values will trigger an increase in demand for PCs, and
in turn, for DRAM microchips.

Industry watchers said that should Intel cut the price of its Pentium 4 CPUs, this will result in a fall in
PC prices, which will likely increase consumption of PCs, and in turn, increase demand for Rambus
DRAMs and other DRAM products used in PCs.

An official at Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. said that DRAM prices have stabilized since July, and
with DRAM makers moving to cut production in a move to solve the supply glut in the world chip
market, Intel's move to lower prices for its CPUs will likely help buoy the faltering world IC market.
