Hi all; Micron explains "Why the Market Chose DDR" to Bear Stearns:

Why the Market Chose DDR
Presentation, Micron Website, June 13, 2001
* DDR is low risk - same cost structure as SDR
* DDR will be/is low price - market sets the price
* DDR is higher performance for most apps
.. Also more performance headroom to grow
* DDR is lower power than all other options
.. Great for laptops, servers, & "Green" desktops
* DDR is evolutionary
.. One controller can support both DDR and SDR
* DDR utilizes the existing infrastructure
* Industry Preference for Open Standards

P.S. To Skeeter Bug; Re Micron and "lowest cost producer". Take a look at page 5 of the above. Micron has as much capacity as Samsung, but they've had a lot less capital spending.
