Supermicro will NEVER do AMD kit

Never. Ever. Ever...
By Mike Magee, 09/08/2001 10:19:43 BST

WE HAD A NICE PHONE CALL from Mr John Tsai of Supermicro, VP of sales, about the story we wrote about his company entering the Athlon MP arena.
Look, he was adamant about this. He said that he had received an awful lot of interest from customers who had read the story, but said that Supermicro will never, that is never ever sell anything other than Intel kit.

Why is this, we asked? He said that Supermicro enjoys a very close relationship with La Intella, but if you look at its Web site, it's got some Via products up there.

There's a nice dual Tualatin design there as well.

So why is it using the words NEVER, EVER? This is a mystery the depths of which we haven't plunged.

Still, we have to accept what the man says, and therefore own up and say our previous story seems to be.... wrong. µ

Dan, <Now Intel is demanding that corporate buyers migrate to a platform that is as bulkier and noisier than AMD's Athlon platform, abandoning what had been a significant advantage for them.>

Northwood and Thoroughbred (or whatever AMD's answer to Northwood will be) should not require bulky and noisy cooling solutions. At least that's my hope.

And besides, how the heck is this related to Rambus?
