I think that what they guy was talking about is that it was a lot easier to double the speed of DDR than it was to double the speed of RDRAM.

RDRAM came out at 600-800 MHz. 2 years later, it's still there. DDR came out at 200-266MHz, it's already sampling at 600MHz.

RDRAM started with its performance already maxed out.
