more anecdotal evidence of what we already know:

front page article in todays SF Chronicle about economic slowdown very interesting, especially this paragraph:

"Local merchants say they see plenty of signs that consumers are hunkering down. Chuck Cortesi, sales manager at Broadway Motors on Oakland's Auto Row, said the vehicle market had turned ugly.

Broadway is one of the few Ford dealerships in the area that has managed to boost both car and truck sales this year, Cortesi said. It has managed to do so only by pursuing niche markets, such as car buyers with histories of credit problems. Overall, Ford sales were down 15-20% in California last month, compared with July 2000."

ho ho ho, sell cars to anyone who wants them, then sell the loans to ACF. it's win/win baby.
