A battle, no matter which way you look at it, but I am not sure Bush will agree to fund it. I think both sides will be heated in defending their position. I know it's not the end of the story, with this speech. And we thought counting the 2000 vote was a mess! Westi

The interesting implications are many, even though still obscure. If the Senate will not impeach a criminal president for crimes committed, in part, even on national television, what will they do?

Say Bush simply orders the IRS to collect only a maximum tax of 20% on any citizen, and fires any IRS official who attempts to collect any more. Any court order would be ignored. But he has 38 Senators to block impeachment.

What would Puff do, besides stand there (like Trent Lott in 1998) looking REALLY stupid?

Can today's Senate convict a president for refusing to collect taxes? The last one couldn't convict a guy for perjury and obstruction.

Politicians in our system are shades of conservative and shades of liberal, which is why you don't see situations like the above. The scorched earth, bitter, permanent combat begun by the Clinton administration and perpetuated by Puff could change that very easily. That's the problem with a party like the Democrats selling out to the radical left like they have. Only the fact that Bush has been able to get around Puff and make favorable deals leaves the possibility in the background...
