"JFS, The Pope is quite often wrong IMO. " I agree he is quite often wrong, but I think all religious people are quite often wrong. We just had the numbers on this thread a couple of days ago, but isn't the catholic church the largest Christian denomination....I'm not countng all the Protestants as one. And doesn't the Catholic church have hundreds of bible scholars in its' hierarchy who interpret the bible for its' flock so as to avoid having religious anarchy among them. And since you agree that the Catholic church is very conservative, wouln't you think they would be in favor of the death penalty if they thought it was part of Jesus' s teachings?

I'm not a Roman Catholic but I respect John Paul as an important moral leader and take his teachings seriously. Frankly, more seriously than most Catholics I know.

Well I don't know what gospels other Christian churches use. But St Mathew. I don't have a clue as to what you mean by self made, doctrines. The Catholic church is traceable back to Peter. Now I don't see how hierarchy of the Catholic church is the least like Jesus vs all the rest. Historically, the Catholic Church is the continuation of the this rock . All other Christian religions are those who decided not to follow the church of the rock. Islam is also based on someone who claimed to be another prophet as he rejected the current teachings of the Church. I have seen many who don't know Catholic Church to have many false and incorrect beliefs about what Catholic doctrine is. To me all Catholic doctrine follows logically from the central belief of Love. The other is that Christ was the Son of God. But one has faith to believe or one does not. tom watson tosiwmee
