Tim, that doesn't answer the question of why the current holdings of the ss trust fund are allegedly worth less than treasury bonds in private hands. That's the line that W's carefully chosen commission seems to be taking, and it's a pretty dubious line. U.S. Treasury bonds are generally considered the most secure investment available in the world, in any other context but this.
