Re <<They felt they had offered the Palestinians much of what they wanted and the Palestinians had spit in their faces>>

Gee, I wonder how Palestinians feel. I am going to go on the limb and say they feel the same.

Re <<It's not going to get better before it gets worse, IMO. Arafat had better have his hotel reservations in Baghdad ready. >>

Oh very nice, you are quite a visionary. Iran, Pakistan and Iraq, 100+ million strong are both itching to test out their new chemical, biological and nuclear technology carried and supported by their new ballistic programs. There is no shortage of religion fanatics in those country. And the word will not rally behind Israel like they did for Kuwait, there is no oil there and there will not be public support for it.

I regret to say that things are not as simple. United States policy in the middle east is "Oil," "Arabs," and Israel." Too many conflicting Interests.

If it was left up to Israel to decide, there wouldn't be one single terrorist act. Sharon hands are tied and he can't do what he likes to. Then there is one more "factor" that I do not want to post here, but if you want I can PM that to you.
