If everybody in the community refuses to sell me food, it would seem highly likely that I have done something that merits ostracism. Which makes it my responsibility. Why is it that I have nothing to offer any of them to persuade them to share their food with me?

And, don't I have the responsibility for having made the choice not to grow food for myself, or learned to forage in the forest, if I had any reason to believe people wouldn't sell me food?

Basically, this will only come about when both the family circle and all my community links (church, clubs, guilds) have all abandoned me.

Pretty hard to imagine that happening to a person who didn't do something to deserve it.

If a person has been that much of a problem, doesn't the community have the right to say "if you want to live, do it somewhere else"?
