Compaq Budgets $500 Million
To Buy IT-Service Companies
By Donna Fuscaldo
Dow Jones Newswires
NEW YORK -- Compaq Computer Corp., faced with sluggish demand for computers and a fierce price war, is trying to reinvent itself as a services company similar to International Business Machines Corp.

Compaq, which wants its services business to account for 30% of its total revenue, brought its strategy to Wall Street Thursday. At an analyst meeting, also broadcast over the Web, Compaq executives laid out their plans, part of which involves buying other companies.

Compaq Chief Executive Michael D. Capellas had previously outlined the plan in a June memo to employees.

Network consulting and integration is a strong growth opportunity for Compaq, Peter Mercury, general manager, global services, said Thursday. To expand in those service areas, Compaq will look to acquire companies, Mr. Mercury said.

Jeff Lynn, general manager, professional services, said Compaq will look to acquire medium-size services companies and said Compaq is budgeting about $500 million this year for an acquisition.

Gottfried,
After viewing all the comments on option information, I thought I would share the following.

I use MyTrack for RT quotes, news, RT charts and so fourth. RT option feature is $1 extra a month. I can see the RT information for all the exchanges trading an option. There is sometimes a big difference in the ask and bid prices on the different exchanges. Not to mention the spreads. MyTrack also has a transaction log for trades. 100% of the time, I see my trade information before my broker can call me. I see it a little after him when waiting on the phone because the log doesn't stream. It updates everytime you open it. You might check the RT service out at www.MyTrack.com. I don't work for them or benefit in any fashion. I think the RT service fee is reasonable and I have almost no problems with it. It also shuts down AOL's timer.<G>
