That's curious. We hired someone from IBM into Intel and he had trouble with the word foil - kept calling them "charts".

I don't know the exact origin - but it was a common term at Intel and other Valley companies for over 20 years - originally referring to overhead transparencies made with early IR technology duplicators and then by Xerographic copying on clear plastic "transparenccy" from 3M, etc.

Remember - Intel and IBM were in very deep relationships from the mid-late 1970s (Caribou project, 8088/PC, 80286, etc.) and a LOT OF CROSS-FERTILIZATION took place - with IBM and Intel meetings constantly going on - on BITH coasts.
