Actually today saw trading volume up (and on a down day that's not good). Also re investors coming in today - today's action was all pure short covering nothing else - the market was so oversold after 5 down days.

volume is down now because this is August and people are on vacation. volume is typically down now and picks back up in the Fall. So the market will really get hammered when the fund managers come back and realize that they bought a lot of lemons using other people's money.
