The guys who trade purely on technicals are taking their lead from guys who either have insight or understand the fundamentals. I imagine this works ok as long as everyone isn't using pure TA.

If the public were to become a significant force in the markets or a stock, TA guys might find themselves taking the lead from main street rather than wall street. Even some participation might muddy the signals 'smart money' generates.

I think it wise to combine TA with FA. Personally, I ignore TA unless I'm looking for an entry or exit point, with a fundamental hypothesis driving the investment decision. Of course, my performance suffer as a result <g>
