With less than $1,000 you can have a system that will be very good performer for many years. anandtech.com for example.

And CPU maker get about 5% of this price. Value segment beat high end segment of last years and the need for more performance is simply not there.

Fast devaluation of recently bought system frustrate customer and now they try to avoid pricey new computer. Add to that, announced 50% drop in price at end of September by Intel is just freezing the market by inviting customer to just wait.

Dan3, Exactly and Intel's bringing a lot of ammo to the table soon with their .13 micron P4 production. Where does it all end up next spring?? For the life of me I can't see demand soaking it up at any price point.
