My point exactly...you WANT them asking. Now you've changed the dialog, redirecting it into an area where AMD shines. How many customers would have to ask "What is this stuff I've seen about 'instructions' being faster in AMD computers?", and then buying one, before your average Joe Storeclerk would start bringing this up himself. It establishes a new USP, which is the goal of the current discussion. And in answer to such inquiries I'd expect any decent analogy would suffice. How about the standard "bigger pipe" approach, or "more channels" or it's like a bigger carberator" to give mom and pop some common sensical idea of the architectural advantages of Athlons? Practically any decent analogy would suffice. Mom and pop may never be able to give you the correct explanation of "instructions" but they don't have to to know it's important and buy based on it. How many consumers now could accurately explain megahertz? Practically none I imagine, but for years they've bought based on it.

The one thing Joe Storeclerk will most unlikely say is "I don't know", at least for very long, and IMO would come up with an explanation fast enough to sell to mom and pop if he/she thought they were interested in it. Of course AMD could help quite a bit in this regard if they would get the lead out and show some interest themselves in establishing appeal for their products based on more than price.

Re: Joe and/or Josephine will ask: What you mean by "instruction" ....

And any advertising AMD can afford will be drowned out by the sheer volume of Intel's ads.

AMD needs to label their nominal clock 1.5GHZ chips that are as fast as a 2.25GHZ P4 as 2.25GHZ Athlon 4s.
