game with a rimfire and most states ban .223.


I was not aware of any bans of .223/5.56mm ammo. It doesn't make much sense to ban it if people can use lower power .22lr or any number of higher power ammo. It can't be banned because it is too powerful, that would be stupid it isn't even powerful. If they ban it because it is not powerful enough to kill a large animal quickly that is also stupid because it could kill a small animal and people would also be free to shoot large animals with .22. (But I wouldn't recommend walking up to a large animal and shooting it with .22, you might wound it enough to make it bleed to death but it also might take you with it. It probably will not die quickly)
